Quick Summary

  • Top Tip: Go now! Turkey’s unfortunate currency crash has meant there has never been a better time to visit for foreigners. We first visited seven years ago and paid a lot more for everything than on our recent visit. Visitor numbers are still lower too, but tourists are starting to return and it will only get busier. This country is simply magical, just book that flight!

  • Currency: Lira

  • Visa: Most nationalities are able to buy a visa on arrival. Note that you must pay in cash. Costs vary but the majority cost 25 euros and are valid for three months. You can buy an e-visa prior to departure and pay less so we’d definitely recommend that option. You can use this link to check your country and costs specifically.

  • Safety: Safety in Turkey has been called into question in recent years due to several terrorist attacks, however, so has London, Paris and Barcelona. We never felt unsafe in any part of Turkey.

  • When to go:

    • Peak Season: July - September (European summer school holidays)

    • Off Season: December - March (excluding Christmas).

  • Walk My World Cost Index: $ - Turkey is one of the best value destinations we have ever been to, with low cost and high quality accommodation and food.
