Arizona

Red rock, canyons and incredible deserts characterise Arizona and there’s nowhere in the world quite like it. It quickly became one of our favourite places in the world.

The Grand Canyon is on everyone’s bucket list, but there is so much more to Arizona. With stunning slot canyons, awe-inspiring mountains, endless desert and the feeling you’re starring in your own John Wayne western. If you’re heading to the USA, Arizona has to be on your itinerary.

Quick Summary

  • Top Tip: Some of Arizona’s bucket list activities require booking long in advance, particularly if you’re planning to visit in high season. Get Antelope Canyon tickets and Grand Canyon Village accommodation as soon as you are sure of your dates.

  • Safety: Arizona is a generally a very safe place. Even the cities here felt pretty safe, but we don’t recommend being complacent in any city in the world.

  • When to go: We visited the Southwest during February and March and found it to be a wonderful time to visit. The crowds were minimal, the prices low and the weather was perfect for exploring (so long as don’t mind the occasional snow day).

    • Peak Season: July - September (Summer school holidays)

    • Off Season: December - March (excluding Christmas).

  • Walk My World Cost Index: $$$ - Whilst accommodation in Arizona and activities in places like Page and the Grand Canyon can be very expensive, food, fuel and getting around can be remarkably cheap if you go to the right places. If you travel in low season you can get some real bargains.
